Frankly, I think most teacher colleges are not really preparing students for the realities of the teaching profession. You’d think I’d either try to work in the system or influence the system. I do, but mostly by criticizing it. That’s fine. But the first step is to change is gaining knowledge. I am out of touch with the teacher college curriculum these days, having left my university teaching job years ago.
What’s the easiest way to learn about what’s going on? Yes, I could read their course curriculum and even the literature. But I do have a friend who very much works within the system. I’ll call her, visit her at work and ask her me to explain why they do what they do.
Getting more relevant information is easy. But you have to make that call or do the reading. Ask. Listen. Gather knowledge.
